Overview
You can easily edit sample metadata to update values or add new metadata after samples have been uploaded to a project. Here we describe how to edit metadata in CZ ID.
Editing Metadata
To change or add metadata to samples in a given project:
1) Go to the Project page of interest.
2) Click the "Add Data" button on the upper right-hand side of the page.
3) Select "Edit Metadata" from the dropdown menu
4) A modal will appear for you to edit metadata for existing samples. You can edit metadata manually (default) or by uploading a metadata file.

- Select the "Manual input" tab within the modal (default).
- Enter the new metadata in the provided fields. Edited fields will be highlighted in blue.
- Press "Continue" after entering the information.
Note: The required metadata columns will be shown by default. However, you can add metadata columns by clicking the "plus" sign to the right of the table. Select additional columns from the dropdown menu and enter the new information.

Steps to Edit Metadata Using a Metadata File
- Select the "CSV Upload" tab.
- Download the metadata template, which contains metadata for existing samples, and edit the file locally in your computer. Note that you can add extra columns if you have metadata that do not fall under the provided columns. Save the file in comma-separated format (CSV).
- Upload the updated metadata file within the provided "Upload your metadata CSV" box.
Note: After uploading the updated CSV file, you will see a confirmation message indicating that the CSV file has been successfully uploaded and a warning section listing the samples that will be overwritten (edited).

- Press "Continue" and review the information. Click "Finish" to update the metadata in your project.
