Overview
Here we describe how to save generated heatmaps and download options.
Saving a Heatmap
You can save a heatmap and return to it later. To do this, simply click the Save button in the right-hand corner of the heatmap between the Share and Download buttons.
You can edit the name of the heatmap before saving. To edit, hover over the heatmap name ("Heatmap" by default) and click on it when the edit icon appears. Fill in the desired name.
You can find all of your saved heatmaps in the Visualizations page. Go to the Discovery page (My Data) and click the Visualizations tab to get to the Visualizations page.

Downloading a Heatmap
To download the heatmap image or data:
1. Click the Download button located on the right-hand side of the page.
2. Select the desired download file from the modal that will appear and click the Download button.
The table below describes available download files.
Name | File Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Download All Heatmap Metrics | CSV | Computed metrics (e.g. total reads, rPM, etc) for all samples x taxa in the heatmap. Note that filters (if any) will not be applied to the downloaded file. |
Download Current Heatmap Metrics | CSV | Computed metric (e.g. rPM) for samples x taxa in the current heatmap view with applied filters (if any). Taxa not present in a given sample and those that were present but did not meet filter criteria are distinguished with "0" and "N/A", respectively, in the downloaded file. |
Download SVG | SVG | Image file for displayed heatmap view. |
Download PNG | PNG | Image file for displayed heatmap view. |
Combined Microbiome Download | BIOM | Value of the displayed metric (e.g. total reads or rPM) for all taxa in the heatmap, combined into a single file alongside sample and taxon metadata with the applied filters. |
