CZ ID will transition to the University of California, San Francisco’s Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) toward the end of 2025. UCSF will manage the platform in its entirety, including customer support, data and privacy policies, and product development. Here we provide answers to frequently asked questions about CZ ID’s transition to UCSF.
When will the transition take place?
- Management of CZ ID will be transferred to UC San Francisco’s Institute for Global Health Sciences toward the end of 2025. An exact transition date will be shared closer to the transfer.
What will happen to existing data and user accounts on CZ ID?
- Existing data and user accounts that are not deleted prior to the transfer will be available on UCSF’s new website. If you would like your user account deleted ahead of the transfer, please reach out to help@czid.org.
Will I maintain ownership over my data once CZ ID transitions to a new partner?
- UCSF is committed to maintaining the privacy and security of user data in accordance with its policies and relevant regulations.
- Regarding ownership and control of user data, once the transition is complete, users who choose to leave their data in the system will automatically fall under the new UCSF Agreement. This means they will be subject to the UCSF terms of use.
- Users who do not agree to UCSF terms must remove their data before the transition date. While users retain their rights to access, amend, and delete their data, the UCSF terms of use will govern all data remaining in the system. UCSF is committed to ensuring transparency in any changes related to data handling and will update its online privacy policy to reflect new practices, including clear details on how user data will be managed and protected under the new partnership.
Will the platform remain free to use?
- UCSF values keeping the CZ ID platform accessible and free for global users, but to sustain the application, they may consider implementing a cost structure in the future. While there are no current plans to charge users, UCSF reserves the right to do so if necessary.
How long will UCSF host my data?
- UCSF is currently determining the best retention policies to ensure growth, sustainability, and cost efficiency, and will communicate the new policy once it’s ready.
What will happen to the open-source code for CZ ID?
- The original CZ ID code developed by CZI will remain available on GitHub.
What will happen to CZ ID's Help Center materials?
- Help Center materials will be transferred and available through UCSF.
Is the platform changing names?
- Yes, the platform will be renamed by UCSF. The name will be released at a later date.
What will happen to the CZ ID website?
- Once the transfer is complete, the CZ ID website will redirect to the new UCSF website. An exact date will be shared closer to the transfer.
Do I need to make a new account on the UCSF website?
- No, if you’re an existing CZ ID user, your account will transfer in its entirety to UCSF. You will be able to use your existing login information to access your new account.
What happens to user information on the CZ ID website?
- CZ ID user accounts and existing data on the platform will be transferred to UCSF. If you’d like to delete your account information, please submit a request to help@czid.org.
What will happen to the sequencing data I uploaded to CZ ID?
- Existing data on the platform will be transferred to UCSF. If you’d like to delete the data you’ve uploaded to CZ ID, please follow these instructions on how to delete sample runs and data. If no action is taken prior to the transfer, your user information and the data you’ve uploaded to or created on the platform will automatically transfer to UCSF.
Can I download the data I’ve uploaded to CZ ID?
- Yes, you can download the data you have uploaded to CZ ID prior to the transfer. Note that CZ ID does not support download through FTP. However, you can create download files through the web app and download files directly to a remote machine or server using curl command. Below we provide links to download guides.
